The term Dermatoglyphics is an amalgamation of two Greek words, derma, which means skin and glyphics which means carvings. Coined by Dr Harold Cummins, the term refers to the prints and formations that are found on palms and soles. In essence Dermatoglyphics is a scientific field that focuses on the study of fingerprints including prints on palm and foot soles.
Contrary to popular opinion, Dermatoglyphics has nothing to do with Palmistry. Unlike Palmistry that revolves around fortune telling by analyzing a certain pattern of lines, Dermatoglyphics is a purely scientific analysis of how these prints depict the function of a human brain. Dermatoglyphics helps studying brain compositions, organizations, intelligence and multiple personalities with the help of sophisticated computer software.
